Regions Now: An introduction to ultrasound for the general practitioner
BSAVA Webinar LibraryAuthor Camilla EdwardsCamilla Edwards presents a series of cases designed to help the general practitioner gain confidence in the use of ultrasonography. The webinar also includes a feedback survey for those who attended the live Regions Now course. This 90 minute webinar is a recording of the live session from this Regions Now event, brought to you by our South East Region. Regions Now events comprise an introductory lecture with supporting content available one week before a live lecture. This is followed by a one-week online discussion forum allowing participants to offer observations about the lessons learned and describe their own experience in handling cases. Regions Now sessions are free to BSAVA members and available for non-members to book - visit the Regions page of the BSAVA website for details of future Regions Now events. Recordings will be available for 3 years via the BSAVA Webinar Library.

Basics of musculoskeletal ultrasonography
BSAVA Manual of Canine and Feline Musculoskeletal ImagingAuthors: Nele Ondreka and Martin KramerUltrasonography has become a routine part of the diagnostic work-up in patients with musculoskeletal pathologies. Recent equipment and software developments such as transducer design, compound imaging, harmonic imaging and signal post-processing have led to substantial improvements in image quality. These advances have expanded the range of applications beyond muscle and tendon pathology to numerous smaller structures such as ligaments and peripheral nerves. This chapter explains the indications for and value of ultrasonography compared with radiography and advanced imaging techniques; equipment; ultrasound examination; normal ultrasonographic anatomy; ultrasonographic abnormalities; interventional procedures. The chapter also includes three video clips.

Abdominal ultrasonography
BSAVA Manual of Canine and Feline Abdominal ImagingAuthor Juliette BessoUltrasound equipment can be considered in two parts: the transducer, which sends the ultrasound waves out and receives the returning echoes; and the computer which analyses the data, orders the ultrasound waves emission/reception sequence, allows modifications and displays the information as an image. Ultrasound waves are produced by crystals with piezoelectric properties. These crystals vibrate when subjected to an electrical voltage. The vibration amplitude of the crystals, and therefore of the emitted ultrasound waves, is dependent on the natural resonance of the crystals. The drystals are made of natural quartz or a synthetic ceramic, and are located inside the ultrasound transducer. This chapter considers the Basic physics of ultrasound waves; Ultrasound equipment; Ultrasound image; Doppler ultrasonography; and Abdominal examination.

Basics of thoracic ultrasonography
BSAVA Manual of Canine and Feline Thoracic ImagingAuthors: Gabriela Seiler, Joanna Dukes-McEwan and Lorrie GaschenPlease note. The new 2nd edition of the BSAVA Manual of Canine and Feline Thoracic Imaging is now available here.
Non-cardiac thoracic ultrasonography is increasingly used in veterinary medicine. Despite the fact that ultrasound waves are not able to penetrate air-containing lung, there are many applications of non-cardiac thoracic ultrasonography. This chapter covers General thoracic ultrasonography; Echocardiography; Endoscopic thoracic ultrasonography.Detailed examples of possible views are included, along with examples of equations.
