Abstract

A small-bore wire-guided tube may be used as a thoracostomy tube to remove air or fluid from the pleural space and for medical management of pyothorax. They can be used for stabilization prior to, or for monitoring and ongoing drainage after, surgical treatment of pleural space disease.
