Abstract
A trocar tube may be used for thoracostomy tube placement to remove air or fluid from the pleural space, for medical management of pyothorax, or for stabilization prior to surgical treatment of pleural space disease.

This video shows how to place a trocar thoracostomy tube. Please note that, for filming purposes, this procedure was performed on a cadaver. Appropriate aseptic techniques should be employed when performing this procedure.
