Corneal cytology and canine ulcerative keratitis Author Negar HamzianpourNegar Hamzianpour and collaborators Christine Heinrich, Rachael Grundon and Rose Linn-Pearl, from the Eye Veterinary Clinic, Leominster, Herefordshire, have been awarded PetSavers’ funding to explore whether the use of corneal cytology is a reliable tool for identifying the type of bacteria involved in cases of canine ulcerative keratitis, using culture as the ‘gold standard’.

Meet the researcher Author Oliver GardenOliver Garden, the Henry and Corinne R Bower Professor of Medicine and Chair of the Department of Clinical Sciences & Advanced Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania (Penn Vet), has received three PetSavers’ grants – two as the supervisor of undergraduate students and one as the co-applicant of a clinical research project with Dr Barbara Glanemann investigating single versus split-dose regimens of prednisolone in treating immune-mediated haemolytic anaemia in dogs.

Complications of feeding tube placement Author Karen HummKaren Humm of the Royal Veterinary College, together with Sarah Williamson (an ECC RVN formerly of the Queen Mother Hospital for Animals) and Emily Thomas from Dick White Referrals, was awarded PetSavers funding to compare complication rates and methods of checking the placement of naso-oeosphageal and nasogastric feeding tubes using a randomized prospective study. The ‘EPIC’ phenomenon Author Liz BodeLiz Bode, together with collaborators David Singleton and Hannah Hodgkiss-Geere from the University of Liverpool and Melanie Hezzell from the University of Bristol, has been awarded joint PetSavers and Veterinary Cardiovascular Society funding to investigate the use of pimobendan in primary veterinary practice in the United Kingdom. Data will be collated from the Small Animal Surveillance Network (SAVSNET), of which David is a key member. Liz, Hannah and Melanie bring cardiovascular specialism to the team and Melanie has previous experience of collating N-terminal pro B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) data from SAVSNET.
