Agata Witkowska, Head Laparoscopic Surgeon at the Holly House Veterinary Hospital in Leeds, has a keen interest in exotic species and reviews this recently published practical wildlife book edited by Elizabeth Mullineaux.

  University of Cambridge vet student Sze Lynn Yuen, reports on her research project entitled Effect of pterygoid bone medialization on nasopharyngeal narrowing and surgical outcome in dogs with brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome.

 Andy Perry works for the BSAVA and is a researcher in anthrozoology, the study of human-animal relationships. As a qualified Equine Assisted Learning Facilitator, he shares his knowledge on the evolving field of evidence-based Animal Assisted Interaction and explores how mutually beneficial interactions can foster our life skills and wellbeing.

Mark Lowrie from the Dovecote Veterinary Hospital in Leicestershire and Virginia Luis Fuentes from the Royal Veterinary College in London are among the speakers who will give a detailed examination of the two most common categories of canine collapse – neurological and cardiological conditions. The BSAVA collaborates with its affiliated groups to offer even more CPD to those with special areas of interest. Many of the talks take place pre-Congress, on Wednesday 22 March this year, with others participating in the main programme.  Robyn Lowe is one of those rare individuals that appears to have almost inexhaustible reserves of energy. As well as working in a busy small animal practice, she is a tireless campaigner to improve the mental health of all members of the veterinary team, she treads the streets of Manchester providing outreach care for pets owned by homeless or vulnerable individuals, and she hammers away at a computer keyboard correcting the misinformation about veterinary treatment that is generated and spread via social media platforms. And at weekends she likes nothing more than to go hiking across the UK countryside in the company of like-minded colleagues.
