To celebrate World Radiography Day 2021 (8 November), the BSAVA has published a new series of procedural client information leaflets with the first four dedicated to imaging techniques.

  Alan Radford and David Singleton from SAVSNET, University of Liverpool, explain how big data is providing new insights into the ongoing threat that is antimicrobial resistance.

The theme of World Antimicrobial Awareness Week 2021 (18–24 November) is ‘Spread awareness, stop resistance’ and aims to improve the general understanding of what antimicrobial medicines are and how their misuse and overuse in humans, animals and the environment are accelerating the speed at which microbes are adapting and building up resistance. Here we outline how and why vets should join in the conversation and highlight some of the related resources from the BSAVA.

Just over a year and a half has passed since the launch of the BSAVA PetSavers-funded Old Age Pets (OAP) research project. The project is now entering its final stage of data collection, so we wanted to update you on its progress and let you how you can contribute as a citizen scientist.

The services offered by the Veterinary Client Mediation Service (VCMS) were outlined in the September 2021 issue of Companion. This month we focus on a specific VCMS case study.

 Ditte Vasby and colleagues at the University of Copenhagen veterinary school won one of this year’s BSAVA clinical abstract awards. Ditte spoke to Companion about the group’s research into determining the accuracy of VacciCheck for distemper, parvovirus and infectious hepatitis.
