New BSAVA President Ian Ramsey was born in Wales, spending his first 8 years in a famous little village on Anglesey called Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch. With his chemical engineer/civil servant father and maths lecturer mother, he then moved to London.

Approach urinary tract infections 
Through the Small Animal Medicine Society (SAMSoc) Fergus Allerton and Andrew Kent of Willows Veterinary Centre and Referral Service in Solihull are launching a collaborative study comparing different durations of antibiotic (amoxicillin-clavulanate) in the management of presumed urinary tract infections in female dogs. This study is aimed at veterinarians working in primary practice and it is hoped that it will provide a large number of vets with the opportunity to participate in clinical research.

British science is facing arguably its biggest ever peacetime challenge – to develop reliable diagnostic tests and an effective vaccination for the human coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, the causative organism of COVID-19. If there is one researcher who truly understands how difficult the task will be, and what is needed to succeed, he is Joe Brownlie. The former head of pathology at the Royal Veterinary College led the team which solved the mystery of a coronavirus strain causing respiratory disease in dogs. He told John Bonner what lessons that project can teach us in dealing with the current pandemic.

Olivia was born and raised in Surrey, and is the youngest of three children of a senior civil servant father and a charity fundraiser mother. She graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in 2006 and now lives in Wiltshire.
