The growing problem of obesity in companion animals has been a discussion point within the BSAVA. For the first time, the Association has provided a position statement and in this article Professor Alex German discusses the background to the development of the position statement and its key aspects.

Figuring out the best approach to identifying and tracking foreign bodies isn’t always straightforward. The BSAVA and the Wales Veterinary Science Centre (WVSC) have joined forces to offer a 2-day small and large animal CPD event by the sea. Kate O’Sullivan, the Welsh Regional Committee Chair, extends a warm Croeso and introduces the scientific programme.

The small band of BSAVA founder members had intuitive foresight, an enthusiasm and energy to get things done and have made a lasting impression on the veterinary profession of today. The autumn of 2018 saw the passing of Brian Singleton and now it's time to bid farewell to Nick Henderson who sadly passed away on Sunday 23 December. Rick LeCouteur emerged from the Sydney veterinary school in 1974 with a case of the wanderlust that so commonly afflicts young Australians. He went on to work in academia in Canada and the United States where he now lives. In April he will be in Birmingham to give a series of lectures at BSAVA Congress on his chosen specialism, neurology. But after that he could be anywhere, through his new career organizing wildlife-watching tours for his fellow vets.
