With Harvey Locke Author Harvey LockeThere are five generations of vets in Harvey’s family with Harvey graduating from Liverpool in 1969. After 4 years in mixed practice he returned to Stockport and started a small animal practice which now has 18 vets. He was BSAVA President 1999-2000 and is now President of the BVA.

With Sandy Trees Author Sandy TreesSandy graduated from Edinburgh in 1969 where he returned as a researcher at the Centre for Tropical Veterinary Medicine. In 1980 he moved to Liverpool as a lecturer and stayed there for the rest of his career. He was elected president of the RCVS in 2009.

With John Tandy Author John TandyJohn Tandy graduated from Liverpool in 1957 and set up his own practice in his home town of St Helens. He was the first president of the BVHA, the president of SPVS and of the BVA.

With Rob Thomas Author Rob ThomasRob Thomas graduated from Bristol in 1974 and after a brief period of mixed practice in the Channel Islands moved to Barton Veterinary Hospital. He’s still there and has cultivated an interest in cardiology leading to a steady referral case load. He’s now the chief examiner for the Certificate of Veterinary Cardiology.

With Malcolm Ness Author Malcolm NessAfter graduation from the RVC in 1982, Malcolm worked as a locum while traveling all over the world before settling in Northumberland where he started Croft Vets with his wife. Over time his interest in small animal surgery, specifically orthopaedics and neurosurgery, grew. He is Associate Editor of JSAP and was presented with the Simon Award at this year’s Congress.

With John Bower Author John BowerJohn bought his first practice in Plymouth in 1969; by the time he retired in 2007 it was a 12 vet, 5-centre practice with a veterinary hospital base. He was President of the BSAVA in 1984/5 as well as holding many other representative positions in the profession.

With Lord Soulsby Author Lord SoulsbyBorn in 1926 and graduating from Edinburgh in 1948, Lord Soulsby spent time in general practice before embarking on an academic career that included 14 years as Professor of Pathobiology at the University of Pennsylvania and culminated in Honorary Fellowships of the Royal Society of Medicine, the RCVS and the Royal College of Pathologists. He was ennobled in 1990 and in 2009 he received the JA Wight Memorial Award from the BSAVA.

With John Hird Author John HirdJohn trained at Liverpool where he returned to start a period of work on Veterinary Anaesthesia before returning to Halifax, where he was born, to take over a mixed practice. He’s been President of the BSAVA and received numerous awards.

With Vic Simpson Author Vic SimpsonVic Simpson graduation from Bristol and later gained a Diploma in Veterinary Tropical Medicine at Edinburgh. He’s developed a passionate interest in the diseases of wildlife species and is a contributor to the BSAVA Manual of Wildlife Casualties.
