Abstract
This course/session will use recent research on heat-related illness (HRI) in UK dogs to update veterinary practitioners on the risk factors, grading, and management of this potentially fatal condition. In the pre-work we will review the ‘normal’ temperature range for dogs using different measurement modalities before exploring the pathophysiological impact of hyperthermia on the canine body. These fundamentals will scaffold our live interactive online session exploring application of the VetCompass clinical grading tool for HRI in dogs which veterinary practitioners can use to aid decision making. Lastly, we will be providing practical advice on educating clients to protect their dogs and prevent this condition as well as the most effective ways to treat HRI when it does occur. Regions Now sessions are free to BSAVA members and available for non-members to book - visit the Regions page of the BSAVA website for details of future Regions Now events. Recordings will be available for 3 years via the BSAVA Webinar Library.
